Today begins the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Pray for those gathering all over the world who not only mourn our division but also thank God for the opportunities he presents to us to demonstrate Christ’s reconciling power in our diversity.
A blessing for all who will work for unity over the coming week, months, and years.
Blessed are those who mourn for our divisions, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek in the face of the strident, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for healing within the body of Christ on earth, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful when condemned as outside of the body, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for trying to bring Christ more perfectly into this world, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when the members of your own body insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. For thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you.
